Holistic Counseling
Counseling is a remote helping relationship between people: the counselor and the client, who communicate empathetically in search of the client's positive resources to improve the client’s quality of life, to solve a problem whose management requires resources to be learned from a broader perspective that goes beyond the problem itself. This is why it is holistic.
Counseling is advice on well-being, lifestyle, and self-care as well as on the quality of one’s life.
The holistic counselor is an inner well-being professional offering:
assistance to those who want to improve themselves, their relationship with themselves and with others;
Holistic counseling deals with the person in their entirety:
Physical activity
Mental activity
Care of the person and their potential, diet regimen, sleep hygiene, rest, human bonds and spirit through enhancing characteristics considered fundamental for mind and person health in their entirety:
- ability to enjoy life
- Elasticity
- Balance
- Flexibility
- Self-realization
The goal of the holistic counselor is to promote and improve the client’s ability to independently foster their own well-being and develop resources (existing in every individual) to face challenges that life presents as it flows.
The holistic approach focuses on overall well-being.
In this perspective, immediate problems are important, and the client is helped to find resources and skills for managing them but with a long-term well-being outlook:
Improve resilience by encouraging healthy behaviors to enhance one’s life and relationships.
When it is appropriate to turn to the holistic counselor:
- repeated and uncontrollable thoughts or memories occur;
- Life feels unmanageable;
- One feels detached from people around them;
- Unable to cope with one's problems;
- Ànxiety is overwhelming;
- Relationships are strained;
- Life seems to require a change for which one does not feel ready;
- There is a need to become better spouses or parents ;
- There is a need to find the right motivations to achieve one's goals;
The activity is carried out together with the client and not for the client.
